I just thought I'd post about Jimbeana's, as I'd never really heard about it before...

I went there with a group for lunch last week and it was very good! The fish, soup, sandwiches and chips all received good reviews. The salad didn't particularly look like anything special, but the rest of the food was very good, the price was fair and the service was friendly!

Jimbeana's is located right behind Pop's Pizza.

I e-mailed WGEM as to where they are at. This a reply from Chad Mahoney News Director.

Katey Walls left at the beginning of the year. She is now in the St. Louis area. Natalie Will and Rich Cain continue to anchor WGEM News Today. Sydne Holder left a couple of weeks ago to devote more time as the owner of her restaurant “Out to Lunch” in downtown Quincy.

Has anyone heard that the Old Bayview Cafe is opening a new restaurant at Front Cedar? I saw in the QHW help Wanted Ads today, that they are hiring cooks ,etc...That would be a great place if it was ran right (Unlike when it was opened before)

very true. The best luck we have had so far is by old fashioned word of mouth. Not a lot of 3 or larger bedroom houses for rent period...Quincy or not.

Cardinals Caravan 2010

I went to the Cards Caravan in Hannibal. Sat in the front row at the center. Got to talk to Jack Clark, some autographs on a couple of balls and a hat, and then left with a great sigh of relief from the estimated crowd of 7 hundred plus. It was awesome!

In the process of moving, downsizing our living accommodations. Have for sale a light tan fabric living room set, Lazy Boy brand, purchased in 2005. 62" Hitachi rear projection LCD purchased 2006 for Christmas, seldom used. 32" RCA TV old....A larger wooden computer desk and a smaller matching computer desk. Fish stand that handles a 26 gallon tank, currently used as a Entertainment stand. John Deere, 118 Lawn Tractor, mulching cutting. Entertainment Center fits 32" TV.

Assault or other

An assault took place in Hannibal in the 700 blunch of Birch that lead to the death of a 42 year old female. It is possible that a 44 year old male was taken in custody at or near the scene. The asault took place around 4pm on Saturday the 16th of Jan.

This is the kind of weather 2.25" tires were made for (besides when I actually go mountain biking, and Monday looks like it shouldn't be too bad for that). The wind is pretty biting, but I've adjusted to the temps and with the right clothing it isn't too bad.

It was Hannibals lost also. Hannibal had the first chance at the boat that eventually went to LaGrange. Both Quincy & Hannibal missed the boat.

K and L Arena

Does anyone hate K and L arena as much as I do? I have never in my life seen a business run in such an unfriendly, owner oriented way! First of all, have you ever seen the owners of any business reserve the first two parking spots for themselves? And not only that, the next ten closest spots to the door are reserved for EMPLOYEES. And if you DARE to park in one of those RESERVED spots, there is a sign on the inside of the door stating that YOUR CAR WILL BE DISABLED. Un-freaking-believable!! And if that isn't bad enough, the parking lot is never plowed or deiced. So when Grandma comes to see her little ones play, not only does she have to park a mile away, she has to endanger her life by walking on a sheet of ice to get there... Oh, and she needs to pay a dollar to get in and "breathe the air"...

Don't they have a back entrance?? Do they not care how arrogant they look by parking right by the front door??

All of that being said, they even went so far as to threaten one of my kids... she was told to stop bouncing her soccer ball..."because he had 24 soccer balls at home and if she bounced it again, he would have 25". Are you kidding? This is a SOCCER ARENA that is geared toward children! I realize that you can't have mayhem with all of the kiddos running around screaming and bouncing the soccer balls everywhere, but that's out of line.

And God forbid you spill something... I told the gal behind the counter that I spilled my drink, not wanting someone to slip. Well, she glared at me and handed me a mop! She must be related to the owner with that attitude. I went to school with him... he knows me... but do you think he would even SPEAK to those people that he knows, his customers? No, he is just as arrogant and spoiled as he was 25 years ago. His father is probably spinning in his grave watching his son, God rest his soul. An honorable businessman who was admired and respected my everyone in the community. Evidentally those traits are not inherited.

Needless to say, my kids will not be playing soccer at K and L in the future. There are plenty of other sports and activities.

Meals Delivered

I have a friend who is going to be working long nights for a while, and I would like to have meals delivered to him. What I am thinking of would be a week's worth of meals, delivered once a week pre-cooked and ready for the freezer, that he could bring out and microwave as needed. Is there a business in Quincy that does this type of catering?

free 6 inch ceramic floor tiles

I have about 200 6 inch ceramic tiles, i pulled up my old carpet and they were under there, some have some glue on them, but a little gas or paint thinner will take it off. must take all. 501 sycamore in quincy, behind garage. bring a box or something to carry them in

10speed....though I don't frequent the place, I am glad that Quincy and the owners can have this place. I try to ignore the majority of what RealityCheck says just mainly because its his personal opionions and I don't agree with many of them.

HOLY GROUNDS is a good thing, mainly because it just may save someone who is searching for something, before they choose to bite the bullet, overdose or some other drastic measure to permanently solve a temporary problem.

Went there the week before last in hopes of dropping some dollars. We don't eat carbs, but I had a little girl with me who I thought might be entertained by the place. Not quite 3 o'clock in the afternoon and the place was locked up tighter than a drum. No "Be back soon" sign, no "Closed for emergency" notice. Just posted hours that led me to think they'd be open 'til 7 on a locked door displaying a darkened room. We went to DQ instead and used our dollars to vote for overpriced barely frozen air surrounded by something resembling a dairy product.

I'm all for patronizing local businesses instead of the national scum. But a store needs to be

1) Open
2) Open reasonable hours
3) Open consistently during posted business hours

Now reasonable people will give a place like that a few shots before writing it off. Unfortunately, "reasonable" does not describe the bulk of the yokels. (No pun intended) They manage to make time in their busy busy schedules to actually be seen downtown and get presented with a locked and darkened door, they'll not be back. I know that even a well worded note with a decent excuse for not being open wouldn't make a difference in the minds of most of the yokels, but for the more level headed potential customer, it would have been a nice touch. If you've got time to lock the door and douse the lights, you've got time to post something on the door explaining why it's locked. Business, especially retail, is not a hobby kids.

If you're really into film, home theater is the way to go. There are more than 9 (bottom-tier) films to choose from, there are no annoying teenagers texting through the whole screening, and the popcorn doesn't cost $5.

However, if you do happen to come across a few hundred thousand dollars, I'd be more than happy to help manage a theater.

The Name "Ghost Holler" says it all...If Greenmount Cemetery was called SpookyMount then everyone would think it was haunted............Wellllllllllllllllllllllll maybe Greenmount is a little Haunted....Take a walk on the last road Far South.... (north of the houses by a fence) It's always dark (even when the sun is shinning) and the stones on the North side are so old you can hardly read them...Yep...Kinda spooky on that road

Telly Savalas

Best known for his iconic TV portrayal of the lollipop-loving detective Theo Kojak, the late, great Greek-born actor Telly Savalas had a real ghostly experience whilst driving home on Long Island at 3 a.m. one summer morning in 1954, when he ran out of petrol and decided to walk to a nearby freeway where he knew there would be a petrol station still open for service.

He walked through a wooded park, as a shortcut, when suddenly this man called out: "I'll give you a lift!"

Savalas admitted to being quite shaken by the voice, as he hadn't heard the big black Cadillac pull up beside him. But the man, who was dressed all in white, looked okay, and he took Telly to the service station. Once there, Savalas became instantly embarrassed on finding that he did not have enough change for the petrol. However, the stranger didn't seem bothered by this, and just handed over some notes and said it was OK, as he could pay him back later.

Whilst they were driving back to the car, the stranger remarked to Savalas that he knew Harry Agannis. When Savalas asked who he was, the man said he was a baseball player with the Boston Red Sox. But Savalas had never heard of him. That was the extent of the conversation, and the man dropped Savalas back at his car.

The following day, Savalas received a big surprise when he read in a newspaper that the baseball player Agannis had died suddenly at the age of 24. Apparently he had died around about the same time that his name had been mentioned by the stranger in the car.

At first, Savalas attributed this to just pure coincidence. However, when he tried to phone the guy to give him his money back, a woman answered and Savalas explained why he was ringing. The woman sounded a little strange, and asked what car the guy had been driving and what he had been wearing. When Savalas told her, the woman began to cry, saying that Savalas had just described her husband - who'd died three years earlier.

Stunned by what the woman had told him, Savalas began to speculate on all kinds of possible explanations, but couldn't really think of anything logical that would definitely account for what he had experienced on that lonely road in the early hours of the morning. Thus, Savalas eventually came to accept that, apparently, he'd taken a ride in a car with a dead man.

The Gardner Museum will be hosting their annual "Spooky" Lantern Tour's at the Woodland Cemetery .....November 1st
4pm-7pm ..Reservations are required and you can call The Museum at 217-224-6873
$6.00 per person.. This tour is Not only scary but you will "feel" the Dead wallking amongst you as soon as you walk in the dark gates...
Trust me....You will be scared

Talking about a crook. i went there to have my brakes checked out he tried to convince me I needed new tires. The thing was I just bought new tires infact 700.00 from delta tire the month before and these tires did not even have a 100 miles on them yet. I told him this and he said well what did you for them I told him and he said he was going to change them for 400.00 I said no your not my tires are fine. Onther business trying to rip a guy off.
